Student Association sponsors forum on emerging church

Rust Auditorium on the Glenside, Pennsylvania campus was packed out October 26-28 with students from Westminster, Biblical Seminary, Lancaster Bible College, and other guests for "Eternal Word in an 'Emerging World'? An Emerging Church Forum,” organized and sponsored by the Student Association.  The stated purpose of the event was to “bring together diverse views for dialogue” and to “explore the challenges and opportunities presented by the emerging church.”  Keynote speakers included Dr. Scot McKnight on “What is the emerging church?” and Dr. Michael Horton on “How should Reformed theology respond to the cultural challenges of the 21st century?”  Visit our website for links to purchase audio CDs and read student blogs on the event.

Benefit Westminster with an IRA Charitable Rollover

On August 17, President Bush signed into law the Pension Protection Act of 2006.  This new law allows tax-free gifts to be made to charities from IRAs.  Westminster works with the Barnabas Foundation to help friends of the Seminary consider how to include Westminster in their estate planning.  To request a Pension Protection Act of 2006 fact sheet, or with other estate planning questions, call the Barnabas Foundation at 1-888-448-3040.

Redeeming Science

Redeeming ScienceRedeeming Science: A God-Centered Approach, a new book by Professor Vern Poythress, author of Philosophy, Science, and the Sovereignty of God, advocates science as a path for praising God and serving fellow human beings.  Dual doctorates in mathematics and New Testament qualify Poythress to offer this theology of science, which John Frame calls “by far the most important book you can read on this subject.”  Order today at Westminster Bookstore and save 37% off retail.

Meet an alumnus

Augustus Lopes, ’95, is chancellor of Mackenzie Presbyterian University, with over 40,000 students in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  Many of his colleagues believe “academy” and “faith” should be kept separate, he says, but “I am trying to show them that in the Reformed worldview, Christ is Lord of every inch of this world, university included."  Read his profile to learn more about how this Westminster grad applies his seminary training to the challenges of university administration.
