Congratulations, class of 2006! One-hundred twenty-five M.A., M.A.R., M.Div., Th.M., D.Min., and Ph.D. degrees were awarded to students from 16 countries at Westminster's 77th Commencement on May 25, 2006. The ceremony began at 2:00 at Calvary Church, Souderton, Pennsylvania. Rev. Herbert H. Lusk, pastor of Greater Exodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia, gave the address; Professor J. Alan Groves, vice president for academic affairs, gave the charge to graduates. Honorary doctorates were awarded to Mrs. Nancy S. DeMoss and Herbert H. Lusk II. Related activities included morning seminars on the heritage of Westminster featuring Dr. Peter A. Lillback, president and professor of historical theology, and Dr. Samuel T. More graduation congrats to John Leonard, associate professor of practical theology, who received the Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. His dissertation is entitled “Oasis: An Ethnography of A Muslim Convert Group in France.” A former pastor, for ten years he was a missionary and regional director for Franco-phone Africa with Mission to the World. Dr. Leonard also holds degrees from Belhaven College (B.A.) and Reformed Theological Seminary (M.Div.).

Meet a current student M.Div. student Joe Troutman is no stranger to hard work. This former U.S. Marine grew up on a dairy farm and is now applying himself to the rigors of seminary. Yes, the academic exercises are difficult, but “incredibly beneficial.” Read his story in this month’s student profile.
Faculty promotions In recognition of professional achievements, several faculty members are being promoted, effective July 1. Congratulations to Alexander (Sandy) Finlayson, who becomes professor of theological bibliography, and Timothy Z. Witmer, who becomes professor of practical theology. Both will be formally inaugurated as full professors in the fall, along with Douglas Green, who was promoted to professor of Old Testament last year. Additional congratulations go out to Jeffrey K. Jue, who becomes associate professor of church history, and Lane G. Tipton, who becomes associate professor of systematic theology.
Women in the Word Women of Westminster sponsors Women in the Word: A Workshop, a weekend of Bible teaching training for women, October 6-7, 2006. Participants will observe experienced Bible teachers in large group settings, and present studies of assigned passages from Jonah, Joel, Luke, Ephesians, and Hebrews in small group settings. Enrollment is by application only (June 30 deadline) and is limited to 40 women. For more information, download the brochure.
Faculty publications The count is in—over the past academic year, 56 titles by full-time faculty members have been added to the faculty bibliography. These include J. Alan Groves’ release of version 4.4 of the Groves-Wheeler Westminster Hebrew Morphology (electronic database); Peter A. Lillback’s “The Future of Theological Education in the Global Era of Church History: Change Without Compromise,” a paper presented to The Third International Conference on Evangelical Theology; and numerous contributions to print and online periodicals. Among the books published this year (available at Westminster Bookstore) are: Jeffrey K. Jue’s Heaven Upon Earth: Joseph Mede (1586-1638) and the Legacy of Millenarianism; Peter Enns’ Inspiration and Incarnation: Evangelicals and the Problem of the Old Testament; and Sinclair B. Ferguson’s Faithful God: An Exposition of the Book of Ruth and Let's Study Ephesians.
